LETTER OF THE MONTH

Watt A Coincidence

In particular, Duncan Findlay’s collection in the November 2017 edition was fascinating – every guitar has a purpose and it’s basically a toolkit for a working musician. Duncan owns some beautiful guitars, but the one that leapt off the page at me was the ‘star guitar’ made for him in the 1980s by Alistair Watt. This is because I was actually in Alistair’s workshop (in round about 1983, I think) and saw this guitar under construction. I am sure it is the same one, because Duncan says in the article that Alistair never made another one like it, and Alistair told me he was making it for a top session guitarist from Glasgow, so all the pieces fit.
