Total FlyFisher  |  May 2016

May is the month we all look forward to as fly anglers as the weather improves, our stillwaters are full of fresh fish, the first hatches kick in and our rivers start to awaken. Now’s the time to get out on the bank and get that rod bent.
This month we have another bumper issue for both the stillwater and river angler. On the small-water scene, editor Andy Taylor shares his flies and tactics for early season buzzer fishing on a trip to Cheshire’s Danebridge Fishery. Fulling Mill’s Kieron Jenkins visits Cwm Hedd fishery in Wales, targeting resident fish in the margins, while Ben Bangham reveals his weird and wacky fly patterns on a spring outing at Frensham Lakes. Les Lockey takes a trip to Pennine Fishery to see if the fishery’s double-figure fish like his tinhead Egg Flies.
All the big waters will now be open; however, prior to its opening we sent Scottish International anglers Kevin Porteous and Willie Leach to the Lake of Mentieth, to see if they could find the resident fish in our Stopwatch Challenge. Did they catch?
TFF regular Clark Colman reveals the beauty of our Lake District tarns on a visit to the stunning Small Water.
On the rivers front GAIA instructor and guide Phil Ratcliffe shows us the methods for fishing Spiders on a trip to the upper Severn, Greys ProTeam member Martin Stewart highlights the tactics and flies for fishing small rivers and Tom ‘Doc’ Sullivan relives the day he caught a 8lb brown trout from Ireland’s River Suir.
On the fly-tying front Richard Garbett brings us the Black Mackay, we have the winning Bloodworm patterns in our fly-tying competition and Kieron Jenkins has three flies for the surface in Premier Patterns.
Andy Taylor reveals his top reservoir patterns while Richard Garbett shares the flies that served him well last year. In all, we have over 40 patterns covering river and stillwater fishing!
Enjoy this issue and the fabulous fishing that May can offer.

Could Be Better Reviewed Saturday, March 9, 2013
The magazine is about the best out there, I like wild fishing and for me there's too heavy a focus on stocked waters and bright bushy flies but they do feature wild waters, natural flies, coarse fish on the fly and the occasional salt water fly fishing spread, I've even seen some tenkara articles.

I really wish the mag would move away from the stockie bashing and feature more wild fishing. Being the best of a bad bunch isn't much to shout about but there you go!

Full of amazing shots, nteresting articles and always manages to teach me something every month with expert fly-tying.
