Total FlyFisher  |  October 2016

October brings about the end of the brown trout season on some UK waters. For many this is the last opportunity to try for a stunning brownie so we’ve highlighted the venues and tactics for you to try for those buttercup browns. England international Steve Smalley reveals the Magic Of Malham Tarn, while Welsh international angler George Barron takes us adrift on the beautiful Lake Vyrnwy, two venues known for their stunning trout. If it’s a big river brown you’re after then Clark Colman reveals the part of the river you’re likely to come across one in the latest part on How To Read Running Water.
As our stillwaters start to cool, the fish will move up to feed on the surface and now is potentially our last chance for catching fish off the top. Les Lockey shares his Flies For The Surface Film, while Simon Robinson has the tactics for catching on the small waters on a trip to Aldin Grange. Draycote fishery warden Tom Bird shares his top reservoir patterns, while fly-tying master Richard Garbett brings us the Snatcher in our step-by-step tying guide.
Wychwood’s Mike Low returns to his roots and shows us how to tempt trout from small rivers as he casts a line on the River Calder, and fly fishing explorer Andy Bowman explains how to catch salmon from spate rivers.
For those looking for something different, check out John Boon’s Norway Adventures. TFF regular Ben Bangham was set the challenge of catching 10 species on the fly in one day. Could he and his fishing pals beat the Stopwatch clock?
We have the winning damsel patterns in the Turrall Tie Off, Rasmus Ovesen shares his top sea trout patterns and Kieron Jenkins has two river flies and a stunning damsel for you to tie and try.
We also have one of the new limited edition Artic Silver Free-Flex fly rods worth over £450 for you to win.
In all, we have 100 pages of the very best of fly fishing from around the world to keep you goingas the nights draw in…

Could Be Better Reviewed Saturday, March 9, 2013
The magazine is about the best out there, I like wild fishing and for me there's too heavy a focus on stocked waters and bright bushy flies but they do feature wild waters, natural flies, coarse fish on the fly and the occasional salt water fly fishing spread, I've even seen some tenkara articles.

I really wish the mag would move away from the stockie bashing and feature more wild fishing. Being the best of a bad bunch isn't much to shout about but there you go!

Full of amazing shots, nteresting articles and always manages to teach me something every month with expert fly-tying.
