Total FlyFisher  |  September 2016

September can be one of the most productive months in the fly fishing calendar as the stillwaters start to cool and the rivers hit top form, with some of the best dry-fly fishing the roving angler can experience. Unless an Indian summer makes an unwelcome appearance, expect some serious rod-bending action.
If summer does arrive then we have the flies and tactics to keep you catching. TFF editor Andy Taylor shares his winning ways on the small waters in the heat on a recent visit to Graiglwyd Springs, while Greys Pro-Team member Euan Miller reveals his top seven stillwater patterns.
On the big waters, England international Simon Robinson goes afloat on the mighty Kielder Water, while David Heseltine takes his new Cruncher Quills to the “Big Puddle” –Rutland Water – to see if its resident rainbows like his version of this top stillwater pattern.
On the rivers, Ben Bangham feels that now is the time for the F-Fly as the fish make the most of last hatches and tasty terrestrials. Clark Colman introduces the ‘run’, the part of the river that both the trout and angler head for. GAIA instructor Trevor Heyliger goes back to his Nottinghamshire roots to catch wild brownies on his home turf!
On the fly-tying front, Kieron Jenkins has three top flies for the stillwaters and George Barron introduces the Bin Laden, his most successful lure over the last 10 years. Snowbee’s Simon Kidd reveals his top four patterns of 2016, while TFF blogger Ali Hutchens shares his best salmon flies. We have the results of the Turrall Tie Off, with three great looking emergers, and there’s £500 worth of the new range of FNF fly-tying materials to give away in our monthly competition.
It’s another bumper issue to keep you catching this autumn.
Tight lines,
Andy

Could Be Better Reviewed Saturday, March 9, 2013
The magazine is about the best out there, I like wild fishing and for me there's too heavy a focus on stocked waters and bright bushy flies but they do feature wild waters, natural flies, coarse fish on the fly and the occasional salt water fly fishing spread, I've even seen some tenkara articles.

I really wish the mag would move away from the stockie bashing and feature more wild fishing. Being the best of a bad bunch isn't much to shout about but there you go!

Full of amazing shots, nteresting articles and always manages to teach me something every month with expert fly-tying.
