I get calls from people who tell me they are starting on the TG road; this is normally Male to Female Transsexuals. We discuss various things that need to be dealt with at the start of the journey, then I am told they are unemployed. Now we all know how expensive this road is - facial hair removal - name change – clothes – cosmetics - often a new wig.
Often the unemployment started with redundancy and while unemployed the person decided to go full time without any real preparation, and then, as they tell me, they find themselves ‘unemployable’ or ‘no one will give them a job’.
Indeed, twenty years ago this was often the case, but things have changed drastically such as laws, and even people themselves - especially if you are in employment when you decide to make this change.
