Editor’s Letter

The way different people experience and view adventure is likely to influence their decisions on where they go, what they do and how they get there. In this issue of Tread, we catch glimpses of this theme in the five vehicles that we feature, as well as in the outdoor activities and essential gear that we review.

Join us as we meet up with Grant Korgan, owner of the 4x4 Sportsmobile van that you see on the cover. Korgan hasn’t let a life-changing injury slow him down one bit, and as you shall soon read, his story is an inspiring one full of positivity. If you live deep in the city but still want access to dirt roads and the great outdoors in a practical way, you’ll want to take a look at the Subaru Crosstrek featured in Mini Rhino XV. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we drop in on a pair of must-see 4Runners built by CAtuned Off-Road. These near identical twins have been converted to run solid rear axles and wear 40-inch tires.

Tread is as much about outdoor adventure as it is the vehicles that get us there. With this in mind, we link up with our resident adventurer Bryon Dorr as he travels to Costa Rica and rides his way from waterfalls to volcanoes to beaches. Traveler Emily Sheff introduces us to a software engineer turned moto-adventurer that she met while exploring the African continent. You’ll want to read about his incredible adventures and insights.
