WHEN WE WERE YOUNG
The pick of Mott... before and after Bowie
Brain Capers
ISLAND, 1971
This album, recorded during what Ian Hunter describes as “five days of chaos”, caught the band on alast-ditch attempt at redemption, playing with acombination of desperation and pride. It’s ahard rock classic, with highlights being the opening number, “Death May Be Your Santa Claus”, and the thundering “The Moon Upstairs”. You can fully appreciate what Bowie heard in them.
