It seems as if a mass panic has swept across the country, as we’ve all suddenly woken up to realise how damaging plastic is to our environment. We’re frantically cutting back on single use-plastic and trying to recycle as much as possible — but are some of our efforts wasted? Certain materials have woven their way into our everyday lives and are more problematic than they may first seem — including black plastic, polystyrene and cellophane. For these three, it’s not as simple as popping them in the recycling bin to later be transformed into a shiny, new product.
