When you stop and think about it, our bonfire night celebrations are a strange affair. Originating from the year 1605, the night that the Gunpowder Plot was foiled and bonfires were lit to celebrate the safety of King James I, who survived the attempt on his life.
It’s an odd occurrence where the effigy of one of the perpetrators, Guy Fawkes, is burnt atop a raging fire, while fireworks that represent what could have happened if the Gunpowder Plot was a success parade across the night sky.
