A few years ago, a friend of mine and I were discussing baseball stats and players over a cold beverage when the topic turned to greatest right-handed hitters of all time. Switch-hitters didn’t count. Subjective, right?
Maybe not so much. We both placed Rogers Hornsby atop of personal Top-5 lists. The numbers simply don’t lie. And we both had Albert Pujols on our list, although I had him closer to fifth than my thirsty buddy who seemed to get even surer of himself than usual with each sip of barley and hops. This was at a time when Alex Rodriguez was moving up the statistical charts, but he didn’t crack either of our lists. That could – emphasis on could – change if we were doing this exercise today.
