The Italian track, just last season, had in fact assigned the title of European Champion to the CRG standard bearer, only to take it away at the end of the awards due to his accidental contact with Celenta.
From that moment on, probably, the season of Paolo De Conto suffered the consequences of those who, despite winning, did not get what they expected. The World Champ did not live up to expectations and then put the point, full stop, to a non-unforgettable 2018 FIA. As he has often accustomed us, Paolo De Conto has certainly not lost heart and continues to give his best to return to the first step of the podium. The Winter Cup, valid as the first official event, brought the Veneto driver back into proper performance mode, useful for resetting – and resettling -past episodes. With the mantra of “going to the track to win”, De Conto ended on the podium on the first 2019 event, battling until the photo-finish with Abbasse, the rival of the 2016 and 2017 World Cup. The dream of seeing a three-way fight with Abbasse and Ardigo throughout the season intrigues De Conto himself, naturally among those most expected at the top of the international debut race. «The battle in the Final was beautiful», De Conto tells us. «I had lots of fun because we were at the limit -all three of us. I have the utmost respect for them because they are two great drivers with two big companies behind them». On the possible world fight, he comments: «I wish, I hope so! It would be a wonderful world final! I do not think there is a need for “redemption” because the 2018 episode has already been forgotten. I run every race to win. Whether it’s the Winter Cup, the World Cup, or the race among friends with the rentals, the only thing that matters to me is winning».
