Range Rover is a frequent target for car thieves in the UK
JAGUAR LAND ROVER (JLR) is deploying a security fix worth £10 million in an effort to stop thefts of its older models.
Owners of Land Rover Defender, Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models, along with some Jaguar cars, have been contacted about taking up the security upgrade. Mostly, these cars were built between 2018 and 2022. JLR says it has already deployed the fix to more than 65,000 cars.
Government data shows that the Range Rover was the second most stolen car in the UK in 2022. Such has been the rise in thefts of the model that, last year, JLR’s insurance partner, Verex, said it would no longer be able to offer coverage.
Earlier this year, JLR chief executive Adrian Mardell highlighted London and Manchester as being particular problem areas for thefts.
