Gentlemen of a certain age know Adam West as Batman, and recall the caped crusader as the product of the small screen rather than the oft-rebooted Hollywood franchise. When asked to picture a Batmobile, they’ll imagine a gloss-black cornucopia of vents, wings and ducts, replete with red pinstripes at the body edges. Precisely as revived here, by Ferrari, in the just-unveiled open-top version of its LaFerrari hypercar. Kapow! The powertrain delivers a mighty 950bhp – just under 800 of those from a 6.3-litre V12 engine and the balance from an electric motor. Bam! That sees you from standstill to 60mph in under three seconds, and on to north of 225mph. But here’s the real knockout blow. Even though it’s not officially unveiled until the Paris Motor Show in the autumn, and the name remains unknown (our educated guess is Spider, though image file names on Ferrari’s website suggest Aperta), the entire production run is already sold out after special preview to would-be clients. Holy investment, Batman!
