One of the problems with having children is that (technically) you are called upon to be a grown-up when there are kids depending on you, and therefore (technically) your own childhood really needs to stop. Despite that, with every parenting move you make, you end up staring your own childhood in the face, and then staring it down as you attempt to avoid repeating your own parents’ mistakes. In other words, everything you have spent years carefully managing, repressing and finessing comes crashing back in on you, in the form of your ever-present offspring.
