At first glance it’s easy to assume that Ricky Martin has led a charmed existence: thrusting and samba-ing through life, garnering hit after hit, selling out concerts and pursuing philanthropic endeavours while being universally adored by men and women alike. But the reality is somewhat different, for not only has Martin worked incredibly hard to reach the giddiest heights of Latin pop superstardom, but his fame has also come at a huge price: from missing out on the best part of his childhood to years of hiding his sexuality lest the truth hamper his global appeal, it certainly hasn’t all been ‘La Vida Loca’.

Now, aged 44, the Puerto Rican-born star is in a great place: his 10th studio album, A Quien Quiera Escuchar (To Those Who Want to Listen), proved he can still deliver the goods, winning him Best Latin Pop Album at this year’s Grammy Awards; he is currently dating handsome Syrian-Swedish artist Jwan Yosef and loving his role as a single father to eight-year-old twin sons, Matteo and Valentino; and he is also still ridiculously good-looking, having more than maintained that leather-clad physique we fell in love with in the nineties.
