Swiss Army Man

Hank (Paul Dano) is stranded on a desert island and about to hang himself when a bloated, flatulent corpse he calls Manny (Daniel Radcliffe) washes up on the shore. When Manny begins to speak, we don’t know if Hank is hallucinating through starvation. But soon the two become friends and Manny gradually brings Hank back to life and guides him home. This offbeat comedy, a huge hit at Sundance, is an unexpected delight – and a wholly-original exploration of human vulnerability and connection. Both actors fully commit to the bold vision of acclaimed pop video directors Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, here making their first feature. And respect to Daniel Radcliffe for making another brave, intelligent choice of role in another risky project, but one that ultimately delivers.
