Sweet Symphony

This year the London Gay Symphony Orchestra celebrate 21 years together.They are one of only a handful of gay orchestras around the world and as they warm up for a big anniversary concert, Winq finds out what this class act are all about
THE ORCHESTRA ALL SET FOR A CONCERT.

Back in 1996 a small group of friends with a passion for classical music came together and formed the London Gay Symphony Orchestra (LGSO). Ever since they have provided musically minded LGBT+ folk with a place to practise, a chance to show off their skills during live concerts, and an opportunity to socialise with other LGBT+ people, all in a supportive environment free from the fear of prejudice. The orchestra’s chairman, Peter Reynolds, has been with the LGSO for 13 of those years, having joined a year or so out of university in 2004. Originally from South Hertfordshire, near London, he went to university in the South West and initially saw the orchestra as a good way to meet new people. dissipate after uni, and when I came back I didn’t have a huge friendship base in London anymore,“ he explains.
