LOW-CARB EARLY DEATH LINK
Low-carb diets, currently popular with runners, raise the risk of an early death, says a study – though a high-carb diet carries the same risk.
US researchers pooled the results of eight large studies and found people eating a moderate amount of carbohydrates (around 50-55 per cent of daily calorie intake) had lower mortality rates – living on average four years longer – than those who eat low-carb meals (below 40 per cent of calories).
