Devotees of George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of epic fantasy novels (televised as A Game of Thrones) have so far waited six years for the author to complete the next, penultimate, volume, The Winds of Winter. Martin recently wrote on his website, ‘Yes, I am still working on Winds of Winter and I will continue working on it until it’s done.’ However, this was in response to the news that currently much of his time is being taken by developing not one but five prequel, or ‘successor shows’ to the HBO TV adaptation of A Game of Thrones.
Martin explained, ‘Ultimately HBO decided to go ahead with four separate developments, to be written by Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland, and Carly Wray.
