Fiona Mitchell is a writer and journalist. She worked on local newspapers before joining a news agency and eventually becoming a features editor on a woman’s magazine. She started writing fiction in 2011 and won awards for her short stories. The Maid’s Room is her first novel, published by Hodder this month. It follows the two and a half years she spent living in Singapore when she discovered the stark contrast between ‘expats’ living in luxury and the domestic helpers who worked for them.
