US webszine Crimson Streets, the strapline of which is ‘Fiction in the style of the pulp magazines of the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s’, requires fast-paced stories favouring action over character. Editors Roger and Janet Caden say: ‘Pulp was not – is not – a genre, it is a style of writing, a feeling’. Capturing that feeling is more important than specific genre, which can range through crime, detective, horror, science fiction, adventure and beyond.
