Shelf life: Annabel Kantaria

Which books would you save in an emergency? Journalist and author Annabel Kantaria shares her top five with Judith Spelman

For the past seventeen years, Annabel Kantaria has lived in Dubai. She has edited and contributed to women’s magazines and other publications throughout the Middle East and contributes to the Expat blog for the Daily Telegraph. She won the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature’s Inaugural Montegrappa First Fiction Award which also bagged her a top literary agent and led to her first novel, Coming Home, a dark family drama and the first of a three-book contract.

The Disappearance is her second novel, which she says benefited from everything she learnt from writing the first. It is about a woman who disappears whilst on a cruise with her two grown-up children. Tensions between the two rise as they question how well they knew their mother and if could they trust each other.
