Performance poetry – writing for voice rather than what is thought of as academic, fixed-on-the-page reading – is now quite commonplace.
Sometimes poets want to write in a way that is more flexible, with a feeling for an audience that is not necessarily well read in poetry of the past. Performance poetry is part of the ongoing art form of poetry with its diversity of forms and styles that harks back to the oral tradition of folk songs, ballads and even vaudeville recitations.
