The theme for this year‘s Young Shetland Writer, open to Shetland residents only, is ‘Northern Lights ‘ and young people between the ages of seven and eighteern are invited to submit original poetry and short stories of a maximum 1,500 words set in Shetland and written in English or Shetland dialect. No entry should have been previously published or entered in any other competition.
There are prizes of £50 plus winners ‘ certificates in each of the three categories, for ages 7-9, 10-12 and 13-18. There is also an additional prize for the best entry written in the Shetland dialect. The closing date for submissions is 1 July.
