Timeless advice on short story submissions from Adrian Magson

Many years ago I used to write short fiction – lots of it. Mostly for women’s magazines, which was the main market for paid fiction at the time. It didn’t matter that the subject matter, usually relationships, romance, twistending capers and the like, was not my first choice (I wanted to write thrillers and crime novels); it was first and foremost a way to get paid for my efforts. It also became a great learning curve for a fledgling writer, in that every time I put pen to paper, I had some basic rules in mind:
