Common Deer Press is a new Canadian small press with a friendly attitude to writers. The editorial team look to publish ‘slightly wacky, totally interesting, and definitely literary books.’ They don’t want genre work and are very open to unusual ideas: ‘books involving music… books with interesting point of view characters (maybe it’s a street roughened tom cat who tells the story, maybe the book follows the career of a fictitious concert Stradivarius or wicked stage Gibson)’, hybrid works, experimental layouts, books in tweets. Don’t query with partials, reprints, sim subs and multiple subs. See what’s on the website and then submit with a brief synopsis and the first ten pages of the manuscript. Paste your submission in the body of the email with ‘Query, title and surname’ in the email subject line to: submissions@commondeerpress.com
