When I first began submitting work to agents and publishers (it seems like a lifetime ago, but I promise the world really had moved on from quill pens and inkwells) the advice given by more experienced writers was to absorb and act on any comments in a rejection that were in addition to a generic ‘thanks, but no thanks’. Such words were gold dust and to be treasured, said those who had already achieved the success I craved.
