It’s now a family space

Glenda Piper knocked down walls and extended outwards in order to create a sociable, open-plan layout, complete with garden access
Thanks to the new open-plan layout, the Piper family can now spend time cooking, eating and relaxing together

Total Cost £9,418

Good idea!

Get the family organised with an inexpensive weekly planner wall sticker, which can easily be removed when no longer required.

For Glenda and Michael Piper the kitchen is the heart of any home so when they moved into their 1930s semi in South London with children, Georgina, Gabrielle and Ben, they knew the existing dark, compact kitchen was never going to cater to their vision of modern family living. What’s more the only garden access was via a cold and dated 70s conservatory. The solution was to not only knock through to an adjacent room, but also replace the redundant conservatory with a full-width extension, in order to create one large, light and airy space, overlooking the garden.

About Your Home Magazine

I don’t know about you, but I always feel like we’ve turned a corner in April. The clocks have gone forward, so we’ve got longer, lighter days; the weather is getting warmer, so we can fling open the windows and let the fresh air in and the garden is bursting with colourful flowers beckoning us outside. And not forgetting, it’s Easter this month, which means we get a lovely long bank holiday weekend to look forward to (which is perfect for getting stuck into a spot of decorating)! So with all this on the horizon we’ve filled this issue with lots of exciting spring features. It’s time to ditch those furry throws and heavy winter curtains and lighten up your home’s look for the months ahead. On page 36 we take a look at the latest fabric trends and show how you can use them to give your home the ‘wow’ factor. While on page 42 we discover lots of great new products to take away your wash day blues. If you haven’t already noticed, green is the big colour trend for this year, so on page 20 we show how to give your home a gorgeous leafy green makeover with purse-friendly accessories. To celebrate Easter our Craft Editor, Sophie, has designed some adorable projects to brighten up your home – you’re going to love the cute little lambs (p.60)! And make sure you check out our quick and easy recipes on page 100, perfect for making your Easter family gettogether really special. Have a great month and a very happy Easter!
