Loading the grain at Garah
Where on earth is Garah some readers might ask? The tiny hamlet is located 720 rail kilometres from Sydney, on the Moree – Camurra – Weemelah (formerly Mungindi) line in north-west NSW. With an estimated population of around 550 in the town and district and boasting the Club Hotel and a post office, the town is 58 kilometres north of Moree by rail. Garah also boasts a grain storage facility, operated by GrainCorp, which helps keep the line alive. John Hoyle reports.

Marulan South and Peppertree quarries
Dugald Black takes a close look at the ‘heavy haul’ rail operations of Boral’s Marulan South and Peppertree quarries, in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.

Thirty-Eight
Thirty-eight years after Wayne Eade and his younger brother had ridden on the ill-fated tour to Mount Thorley behind Garratt 6039, he learnt that recently-restored 6029 was coming to the NSW Central West of NSW to operate a series of short tours. He and his brother were determined to once again ride together behind a mighty 60 Class Garratt.

Coonamble and Cobar with 621-721 – and help from V46
On the June long weekend, the ARHS NSW Division took the Rail Motor Society’s 621/721 all the way from Sydney to Cobar – and beyond. A successful marathon tour that was not without its moments of drama, as Neville Pollard reports.

The Australasian Rail Industry’s Night of Nights
Individuals and organisations from the Australasian rail industry were recognised for their outstanding achievements and innovations at this years’ Australasian Rail Industry Awards, held at the Palladium Room of Crown Towers in Melbourne.
