With a trailblazing career that included a Triple Crown, two MVPs, being the first African-American manager in the major leagues and induction into the Hall of Fame, the late Frank Robinson proved himself one of the game’s true legends. So where is the love among collectors?

He’s the other Robinson. The one whose Hall of Fame career is sandwiched between Jackie Robinson’s historic journey in Major League Baseball and Brooks Robinson’s 16 Gold Gloves in Baltimore. A quiet player – but make no mistake a fiercely competitive one - who always put his team first, Frank Robinson’s accomplishments on the field and in the dugout helped transform the game.

In doing so, Robinson put up some of the greatest numbers of all time. When he retired as a player in 1976, he was fourth in career home runs (586), 10th in runs scored (1,829), 12th in RBIs (1,812), and 10th in hits (2,943). As the first black manager in the big leagues, he was a trailblazer who changed the game forever. The Hall of Famer’s death on February 7 at age 83 brought an end to an era that saw a single player win MVP awards in both leagues, earn a World Series MVP and capture one of just 17 Triple Crowns in major league history.

Yet, for all that he achieved during his 50 years in baseball, he rarely breaks the Top 20 when experts rank the greatest players of all time. Which is bewildering.

Robinson digs for third against the Mets in the 1969 World Series.
The Orioles in the 1960s included (from left) Elrod Hendricks, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson and Davey Johnson.
