“I’m only 14, but I’m goin’ on 15, I wanna be 16, so I can get me a hot rod,” Lorrie Collins squealed with perhaps a hint of innuendo… Conventional wisdom is that the 1950s were much more ‘innocent times’, but The Collins Kids proved that early rock’n’roll never veered far from the quietly subversive.

Lorrie Collins, who has died aged 76, was the elder of the exuberant Collins Kids, her passing confirmed in a simple Facebook post by her younger brother. “My sister Lorrie Collins passed away on this day August 4, 2018. She would want all of her loyal fans to know. God bless you my angelic beloved sister. Larry Collins.”
