A JUMP INTO THE PAST

CIK FIA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP OK / OKJ

A jump back in time. This is the first impression one has when crossing the gates of the Kartshop Ampfing, home to the third stage of the FIA Karting European Championship for the OK and OKJ classes on the 17 June weekend. Forget F1-style infrastructure, hotels and glazed towers; forget about long straights and curves to run at full throttle, because Ampfing is an old-fashioned track, which may seem unwelcoming with its unpaved paddock, but it certainly has character. And in the end that’s what matters; it’s racing, right? Lorenzo Travisanutto, the moral winner of the Senior challenge, a few steps from the checkered flag, and his first success in the European Championship, lifted his foot to the advantage of Hannes Janker, also equipped with KR, but in a better position in the championship.

He unveiled some important background news on the homologated Minikart and took stock of the homologation of Original Kart. After the uncertainties at its debut, OK is proving itself to be the correct choice towards returning to the old glories of karting. Furthermore, the return of Ampfing and Salbris to the CIK calendar allowed us to shed light on the methods of selection of circuits and on the direction chosen by the Commission, which will guarantee more varied calendars in the future.

Aron the magnificent
After the great success in Sarno and the setback at PFI, Paul Aron is back on top at Ampfing. The Estonian, once again fully on, left nothing to the however fierce competition, failing to “scare” on Friday and Saturday. A deserved victory, born of sports intelligence, now matured by the leader in the general standings. A single lap it took to get rid of rivals and then off to the checkered flag. Completing the podium were Luca Griggs and Gabriel Bortoleto, worthy rivals of the final. Things get complicated for Gabriele Minì, betrayed by a technical problem just a few laps from the finish line while fighting for third place.

Some images of the old sump casing configuration, with the partial black finish, compared to DR Racing’s most recent work, with the unpainted finish. Notice the different profile in the area of the porting bags and the different opening of the crank chamber, wider and rounder.

THE YAMANE SPECIAL INAUGURAL WORLD CHAMPION, NASSAU 1959
At the beginning of 1960 Jim Yamane was synonymous with karting activities the world over.
