Let’s talk about engines

Some images of the old sump casing configuration, with the partial black finish, compared to DR Racing’s most recent work, with the unpainted finish. Notice the different profile in the area of the porting bags and the different opening of the crank chamber, wider and rounder.

Already at its debut, the Modena 125 was much appreciated for the originality of its design, not an end per se, but created to meet specific technical and design parameters and requirements. In a 125 kart engine of the latest generation, in fact, the line that is created between carburetor, lamellar pack and crankcase greatly influences the performance and delivery features of the said power unit. Over the last few years we have witnessed a spasmodic research aimed at maximizing the intake manifold length, an expansion of the lamellar pack due, mainly, to the ever increasing number of fast tracks and, above all, studies of the crankcase shape. In the Modena all these concepts have been condensed, made extreme and translated into an original and innovative design such, for example, the cylinder being rear-tilted towards the gearbox to optimize all these parameters. A solid foundation or starting point then demands equally thorough and ongoing development because in no other industry does time run as fast as it does in the industry of producing race engines: those who stop are left far behind!
