NEW MINI ON-TRACK TEST

On the occasion of the first collective tests and the first race of the WSK series in Adria, it was possible to finally see the new 60 Mini “recently unified” by Cik-Fia on the track. We’ve also talked about it abundantly in other articles: here, we focus on some of the technical innovations seen on the track, beyond the aesthetic factor determined, for example, by the new fairings. In particular, the new homologated ignitions by PVL and Selettra met with some interest. In both cases, there has been a decided simplification, above all, due to the “disappearance” of the separate control unit, which similar to what is seen on OK engines is now integrated in the coil.

Another technical innovation is related to the intake and is added to that of the air filters that we have already presented on the last issue of Vroom. We are talking about the new Dell’Orto carburettor, the one marked PHBG 18 BS, of the float type and with fixed jets. In reality, the differences compared to the model adopted previously are more than anything else a detail: the ferrule is now screwed in (instead of being fixed with two screws) and has an angled cable guide that can rotate freely, thus facilitating assembling and taking apart its components. That besides, both the 18 mm diameter venturi and the internal air and fuel passages have remained unchanged. So, too, the calibrations, so one may continue to use the jets and settings already defined previously.
