Lancashire
For one night only, following an extraordinary one-wicket win against Hampshire at Aigburth, Lancashire dreamt of finishing as county champions. For all the unbridled celebrations in the dressing room after their skipper Dane Vilas swept the final runs to dash Hampshire’s own hopes of the title, less than 24 hours later it was over. Warwickshire had skittled Somerset, and pipped them at the last.
In the aftermath of the Aigburth game, Luke Wells, signed from Sussex and whose century against Somerset set up the finale, put it best on Twitter, writing: “Whatever happens tomorrow, I can’t put into words what it means to be part of this group. A team of warriors who’ve fought all year. I love this team. I love this game.”
