NANCY HOBBS
There was a time, as little as 30 years ago, when it was rare, if not unheard of, to see women running on the trails. It’s thanks to pioneers such as Nancy Hobbs that this has now turned on its head
No.52
Nancy has had a huge impact on women’s running, both on and off the trails
While living in Colorado Springs, Hobbs was working for the Pikes Peak Marathon. Founded in 1956, this is the oldest continually held marathon in the United States. It’s also one of the toughest marathons in the world, an out-and-back to the summit of Pikes Peak at 14,115 feet. Hobbs had started trail running in the 1980s, had coached women at cross-country running and also volunteered for USA Track and Field.
