What’s the hardest race you’ve ever done?
The 800m at the end of my first heptathlon of the 2021 season in Lana, Italy, where my PB was 2:12:07 going into the competition. To get the Olympic qualifying of 6,180 points, I had to run 2:10:90 in the 800m after completing six events. It was extremely hot and a very pressured race, as I was racing for position as well as points. I led the first lap and went through the bell in my target time of 63 seconds, but then the girl who needed to beat me by one second to finish above me overtook me down the back straight. My coach shouted and encouraged me to overtake the girl and I did, producing my fastest finishing 200m ever and winning the race. I dipped over the line in 2:10:84, scoring 6,180 exactly to get the points for Olympic Qualifying. I collapsed over the line and couldn’t get off the floor for 20 minutes!
