AUTUMN 10K

S ome people love summer for a spot of PB bagging but, for others, there’s nothing like the back-to-school energy of September to make you feel like knuckling down for a bit more tough training. If you’re the kind of runner who’s got a bit of summer fitness behind you already – perhaps you trained for a half-marathon or did a couple of fun 10Ks – and feel like you still have more to give, then a few weeks of dedication through early autumn could see you snag a fast 10K with relative ease. Most coaches agree that six to eight weeks of solid speedwork is all it takes to see a difference in your 10K performance – the key thing is that you must have some fitness behind you. “You need to be at the 10K distance already,” says coach Katie Tucker (otherwise known as Clean Coach Katie, cleancoachkatie.com). “You need to have the confidence behind you that you can do a 10K comfortably.”
