Technology for writers: A picture will sell 1,000 words

I know, I know – you’re a writer, words are your forte, so why would you want to waste time mucking around with pictures?

But if you’ll indulge me for a few moments, you’ll see that there are many situations in which the ability to snap a good picture and edit these to a professional standard will benefit you greatly, increase your chances of publication and open up new opportunities.

Why do writers need to be good with images?

In this article I’m going to take you through what you need to know to get the images you need, and to edit them to bring out their full potential and ensure their suitability. While you may never be the next David Bailey, with a bit of practice you should be able to routinely produce images that look great and put you in many an editor’s good books. First though, let’s take a quick look at some of the situations in which these skills will be of benefit:

• Making your blog or website more visually striking.
