Manage dominant personalities and shrinking violets to ensure your writing group runs fairly, says Julie Phillips
In a room full of people it can be difficult to get your voice heard. If your writing group meetings are busy or even if you’re a small group it can be hard to get your point of view across. It only takes one member to dominate proceedings and other members can feel as though they and their opinions are being side-lined. But should it be the case that he/she who shouts loudest gets heard? Do you worry that some of your less vocal or less confident group members sometimes get left behind in the wake of more expressive members’ enthusiasm? Maybe you’re a member of a writing group where this happens on a regular basis and would like to know how to break the cycle?
