BBC world affairs editor John Simpson has been extolling the memory of Clare Hollingworth, the Daily Telegraph‘s charismatic war reporter.

Her exploits featured in a BBC TV drama, where she formed the inspiration for a fictitious American correspondent called Nancy Campbell played in World of Fire by Oscar-winning actress Helen Hunt.

Clare saw the huge build-up of German tanks on the German border, and while still a journalist with a few days experience, brought the world first news of Hitler’s invasion of Poland.
