Sleep cure
I thought I would let you know how much your magazine is putting me to sleep. No, wait, please read on!
As an older mum of a toddler, I have grudgingly accepted that lack of sleep is just par for the course. Friends have suggested solutions for my insomnia including crosswords and physical exercise… (Seriously… I’m 48. Running around after a three-year-old who is more puppy than human should be exercise enough.) However, I recently acknowledged the fact that it was due to lack of stimulation that, in desperation, my brain kept randomly recalling the names of the Paw Patrol cast. I needed more mental exercise. Scanning the magazine shelves in the supermarket for a revelation, I discovered Writing Magazine, and on the spur of the moment, bought my first issue. I can now say, several issues later, that embarking on the creative writing path has helped immensely. I am a convert, reading cover to cover and following all relevant advice. Each morning I do a short writing exercise, and in everyday life I find that my brain is constantly ‘on’, plotting, or running through imagined dialogues. Come bedtime, I feel like I have done something mentally rousing during the day, have actually done a bit of ’toil’, and I usually sleep well.
