Poetry winners: Making the list

Adjudicator Meg Marsden highlights the winning poems from our Bucket List Poetry Competition

All of the entries received confirmed that this was a topic to be very much enjoyed. Bucket lists are all about dreaming and dreaming and imagination are two vital gifts to writers.

Poetry competition Winners

It would be hard to recall a time of more laughter than when reading the poems for the WM ‘bucket list’ competition – there was such hilarity, fun, invention, daring and naughtiness amongst these entries, which made it incredibly difficult to select winners.

All the winners and a great majority of entries were in rhyming verse and also generally humorous and maybe that is a reflection of how we tend to view approaching death – almost as though it perhaps is not going to happen to us and something that we don’t wish to truly contemplate seriously but wish to keep a light and distant view of.
