If it does not make me sound too much like a dinosaur, let’s talk about travel agents for a few moments. Of course, some of those working in them are signed up members of the Institute of Upsetting Customers and act as no more than a signpost to the internet. But some, as I recently experienced, are really very good and yet perhaps in danger of being neglected in this online age.
I recently booked a holiday for later in the year, going to an agent only because there was a sale on (both with the airline I wanted and with an overall sale discount offered by the agent). And they surprised me by being really very good. I saved a good deal of money; including one tranche saved by making an adjustment to my itinerary, the possibility of which would never have shown up online. I also was helped to circumnavigate the difficulties of a non-standard itinerary and got some good information along the way.
