I gave my bland bathroom a burst of personality

Feature Emma Fishman Photos Lizzie Orme

When Gemma Rida, 30, first moved into her three-bedroom flat in South Woodford, with her husband, Mourad and two children Oulayah, eight, and Edward, two, she was happy with the bathroom, but that didn’t last long. ‘Soon after moving in, we realised the plumbing had been badly installed, and the problems just got worse,’ Gemma explains. The pipes under the bath had been leaking for quite a while before Gemma had noticed, which had been damaging the walls and floor. Gemma’s dad came over to take a look and discovered the shocking workmanship. Gemma decided this was her opportunity to start from scratch. ‘The bathroom wasn’t to my taste anyway. It felt really bland and lacking in character, so now I could put my own stamp on it,’ she explains.

Traditional-style taps positioned centrally give a luxurious feel as well as extra comfort. wall hooks and a wooden bath rack keep all of Gemma’s bathroom essentials close to hand
