Café racers are the good, the bad and the ugly of the motorcycle world. A good Triton can be a work of art, a bad one an instrument of torture. It’s the same with Japanese-based specials. Who can resist the allure of a well put-together Seeley Honda, for example? But hands up all those who have thrown up their hands in despair at some of the hacked about, ace-’barred abominations we used to see in the seventies, all ill-fitting glassfibre and lurid paint. But amidst the horrors, some exceptional examples of the genre have been crafted down the years.
