DANZA&DANZA International  |  November/December
Greece, mythology, the present day and the arts. The visionary Greek artist Dimitris Papaioannou brings the subconscious and the irrational to the stage. We met him in this issue, protagonist of our cover story. We spoke also to the internationally renowned Italian dancer and choreographer Davide Bombana called to take up the reins of the Palermo Teatro Massimo Ballet at a difficult moment in time. Bombana appears to hold the key to change; he also has tenacity and grit in abundance.
In this issue, we mark the brilliant international career of the Italian Francesco Gabriele Frola, named recently Lead Principal of the English National Ballet in London after his important experience at National Ballet of Canada.
On the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death, we take a look at works inspired by the great poet’s words: from Frederick Ashton’s "Dante Sonata" to Micha van Hoecke, Emio Greco, Wayne McGregor, Olivier Dubois until the new production by Polunin Ink, "Metanoia", which should debut in Italy in 2021.
Many reviews from Italian dance festivals and Theatres mark the summer resumption of the performances after lockdown. We also report two European premieres: Christian Spuck's" Sleeping Beauty" in Zurich and John Neumeier's "Ghost Light" in Hamburg.
