The Hornsea Gazette, April 25, 2024

This week we lead with the news that the Hornsea Foundation, the charity that organises the popular Biker Event, has had to cancel it and all of the other events in its 2024 calendar due to ill health. However, in response to several comments from local people, the Hornsea Carnival committee has said it is "open to discussions" on stepping in to help save the event.

Plus: the 28-year-old Hornsea woman embarking on 10 fundraising challenges to mark 10 years of being cancer-free; and Hornsea's WI is named the region's top branch.

An exhibition in Hedon reveals finds from an archaeological excavation on the banks of the Humber estuary; local MP hears the road safety concerns of Patrington Primary pupils; a former Holderness man on the release of his former band's album - nearly two decades after it was first written and recorded; the canine characters that stole the show at Hedon Scrufts; the RAF reveals the new livery on the Typhoon jet that will be roaring into Withernsea for this year's Blue Light Weekend; Hornsea and Withernsea choirs unite for a concert celebrating local lifesavers at sea; HETA (Humberside Engineering Training Association) and Reckitt join forces to work with students across the region; and Flamborough is set to remember the seven people who died in a double fishing boat tragedy 40 years ago.

Our weddings feature highlights the diverse offering in our region from venues to outfits and gifts, while there's a chance to win £25 to spend at one of our advertisers in our reader competition.

And there's 13 pages of sport, including some great pictures from recent Holderness Vikings Youth matches, extensive rugby league coverage, Will Young of the To Hull and Back podcast on the controversial changes to the FA Cup, reports from Easington United, Withernsea AFC, AFC Skirlaugh, AFC Preston Ladies and Girls, Burstwick Country Golf, and more...
