British Railway Modelling (BRM)  |  BRM Guide to Layouts: Volume 2
Following the government running of the railways during WWI, The Railways Act of 1921 was introduced. It created the Great Western Railway (GWR), Southern Railway (SR), London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) and London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) in a bid to reduce competition and maintain the existing lines needed to rebuild the country. Known as 'The Big Four' they existed between 1923 and 1948, after which the railways would be nationalised following WWII. We've compiled this selection of model railways representing each of the four companies from the era.
