Inside Crochet  |  Issue 168
As most of you will know, one of the myriad joys of crochet is the ability to create fabulous shapes with little effort – once we have a grasp of the basic stitches we’re away! For me, crocheting flowers is a wonderful way to practice different stitches in new forms, whether they’re lacy motifs, 3D pieces or more solid patterns. So for this issue we’re got all of these in abundance!
We’re inspired by the most of British of summer activities – the flower show! We’ve got gorgeous garments like Emma Varnam’s Zinnia Slipover and Ana Dyakova’s Charming Top that would look beautiful worn to the Chelsea Flower Show or a spring wedding.
This month also features stunning accessories that show off the textural nature of crochet, such as Kwannie Cheng’s oh-so-pretty Anemone Bag and Claire Montgomerie’s Corn Poppy Corsage. And we’ve got the perfect accessory for pottering around the garden, whether big or small, with Rhian Drinkwater’s Mary Straw Hat.
There’s no end to floral designs in crochet, so I love how Cassie Ward has used the colourful African flower motif to make a cardigan for everyday wear, while Helda Panagary has opted for puff motifs to make a modern check blanket with oodles of texture. Plus Helen Anderson has embraced modern florals with tapestry motif designs – so clever, cool and beautiful!
I hope you enjoy this array of blooms whether you’re green-fingered or not. After all, we can always make our own crochet garden.
